Our Why:
Let’s get one thing straight right away.
We didn’t start a soda truck because dirty sodas were trending and we thought pretty colors would sell. We started this because we got tired of watching Black culture get borrowed, flattened, and sold back to people with none of the actual story attached. So we built something where the story doesn’t come off the top. It’s the whole point.
Why the History Matters
Black food and drink traditions have been shaping American culture for centuries, and somehow the credit rarely follows. Hibiscus gets called exotic instead of ancestral. Sweet tea shows up on every Southern menu with nobody mentioning Gullah Geechee communities. Watermelon became a punchline instead of the story of Black economic independence it actually is. History gets smoothed over until it’s just a flavor, easy to consume and easy to forget where it came from.
We didn’t want to be part of that pattern. So every drink on this menu carries its history with it, on purpose, out loud, whether or not you were expecting a history lesson with your order. You’re getting one anyway.
What We’re Actually Trying to Do
This isn’t about nostalgia and it isn’t about guilt either. It’s about accuracy. Somebody built every tradition we pull from. Somebody carried it across an ocean, or built a business from it after Emancipation, or kept it alive in a kitchen with no cookbook and no credit. We think that somebody deserves to be named, even generations later, even when we don’t know their actual name and can only tell you what they built.
So we hand you a Heritage Card with every drink. Not a gimmick. Just the story, plainly told, because the story is the reason the drink exists in the first place. We’d rather you know exactly what you’re drinking and why it matters than just think it tastes good and move on.
The Whole Point
We are not inspired by Black culture. We are built from it, and that is a completely different sentence.
Reclaiming a history that got mocked, erased, or quietly taken without credit isn’t a marketing angle for us. It’s the actual reason this truck exists. Every pour is us saying the story out loud instead of letting somebody else tell it wrong, or not tell it at all.
The sweetness was always ours. We just made sure nobody could pretend otherwise.
Find Us
We show up at farmers markets, festivals, private events, and pretty much anywhere across Massachusetts and New England that will have us.
